A PEAR TREE POINT BEACH ENGAGEMENT SESSION

There’s something about a coastal Connecticut engagement session that will always have my heart.  From the rocky beaches and sailboats drifting through the harbor to the soft, ever-changing New England light, the Connecticut shoreline creates a beautiful backdrop for engagement photos in every season.  Samantha and Connor’s Pear Tree Point Beach engagement session in Darien, Connecticut was the perfect example of why you don’t need perfect weather to create beautiful photographs!

From the very first time I spoke with Connor and Sam about their wedding photography earlier this year, I knew these two were going to be a fun pair to work with.  They’re the kind of couple who are completely comfortable laughing together, embracing the moment, and not taking themselves too seriously, which made their engagement session feel less like a photo shoot and more like an evening spent together.

We started their session at Pear Tree Point Beach, taking advantage of the beautiful coastline and relaxed beach setting.  There were plenty of playful moments, lots of laughter, and the kind of natural interaction that makes photographing a couple so much fun.

After a few photos on the beach, Samantha and Connor invited me onto her family's boat to continue their session out on the harbor.  As we floated along, we had a little bit of everything New England decided to throw our way: cloudy skies, coastal winds, and water that was definitely a little more choppy than we might have expected.

Instead of letting the conditions slow them down, Sam and Connor embraced it!  They laughed, cuddled into each other on the boat, and simply enjoyed being together.  Those are always some of my favorite engagement photos: the ones where a couple forgets about the camera and gets completely caught up in the moment.

Just when we were getting ready to head back toward the marina, the clouds began to break.  Then, almost as if Mother Nature had been waiting for the perfect finale, we were gifted with the most beautiful golden hour.  The soft sunlight poured across the harbor, catching the water and wrapping Connor and Samantha in that warm, glowy light photographers dream of.  After a session filled with movement, wind, clouds, and plenty of laughter, the golden hour felt like the perfect ending.

Their session was a beautiful reminder that you don’t need a perfectly sunny day (or a long list of locations) to create meaningful engagement photos.  Sometimes, the best images happen when you embrace whatever the day gives you.  For couples planning a Connecticut engagement session, I’ll always encourage you to choose a location that feels like you.  Whether that means a favorite beach, a family boat, or simply a place where you love spending time together, those personal touches are what make your photographs feel authentic.

THE PROPOSAL STORY

Samantha and Connor had traveled to Maine for a friend’s wedding, but they decided to turn the trip into a full weekend getaway.  The day after the wedding, they drove to Kennebunkport to spend the day exploring, which Sam had no idea would be one of the most special days of her life.

They started the morning with a whale-watching trip before spending the afternoon wandering around downtown Kennebunkport.  It turned out to be one of those perfect October days: crisp air, sunshine, and everything just feeling easy.

After the boat ride, the two were walking through town when they crossed the little bridge in downtown Kennebunkport.  Connor pulled Samantha aside, told her how much he loved her, and kissed her.  She told him she loved him too and then, completely unaware of what was about to happen, turned around and kept walking.

A few steps later, Samantha stopped and thought to herself, "Wait… was he just trying to propose?"  When they reached the next shop, she glanced over and noticed the unmistakable outline of a ring box in Connor’s pocket... and that’s when she knew!

For the next hour, Samantha found herself in a funny little dance of pretending she had no idea while simultaneously waiting for the moment to happen.  Connor, meanwhile, was carrying around a secret that was getting harder and harder to keep.

When they eventually made their way back across the bridge around golden hour, Samantha made sure not to wander off this time.  Connor then stopped her again.  Nervous, sunburnt from their morning on the boat, and finally ready to pop the question he had been waiting to ask, he got down on one knee.  He told Sam how much he loved her and asked her to marry him. Of course, the answer was "Yes!"

Afterward, the newly engaged couple spent some time simply walking around in a bit of a daze, taking it all in.  There was something special about having nowhere to be and nothing to do except enjoy the fact that they had just gotten engaged in one of the prettiest little coastal towns in New England.

Eventually, they headed back to their hotel to call their friends and family and share the exciting news.  Then, they went out to dinner to celebrate, just the two of them, soaking in the beginning of this brand new chapter together.

These two are getting married next October at Saybrook Point Resort in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, and I cannot wait for their day! Congratulations Samantha & Connor!
