A SOUTHPORT HARBOR ENGAGEMENT SESSION
A coastal New England spring is undeniably romantic. The salty breeze, the soft gray skies, the quiet charm of historic streets; it all creates the kind of atmosphere that feels straight out of a love story. Devon and Kevin’s engagement session at Southport Harbor and the historic streets of Southport Historic District was exactly that: effortless, joyful, and full of the kind of connection you can’t help but admire!
As Kevin and Devon walked along the streets of this sweet little neighborhood, it was immediately clear how naturally they fit together. They have the kind of chemistry that makes photographing couples easy; playful and teasing one moment, tender kisses the next, and endless laughter woven through it all. Their energy made the entire session feel relaxed from the very beginning.
We were gifted one of those perfect spring evenings in Connecticut. The weather was slightly overcast, which created the dreamiest soft light, and the temperatures were comfortable enough to wander slowly through the harbor area without rushing. The calm water, sailboats, and muted coastal tones gave the entire session a timeless, romantic feel.
Their engagement session began across the street from the harbor, where Devon and Kevin naturally fell into step together as if no camera was even there. Some of my favorite moments happened in between poses: Kevin making Devon laugh, the way she instinctively reached for his hand, and those quiet little glances they shared when they thought no one was watching.
That’s always the goal during engagement sessions: creating space for couples to simply be together. The best images rarely come from stiff posing. Instead, they happen when couples feel comfortable enough to relax into the moment, and Kevin and Devon did exactly that.
After spending time along the water, we wandered into the Southport Historic District. The tree-lined streets, classic architecture, and quiet sidewalks gave the session a romantic, editorial feel while still keeping things playful and candid. Every corner of Southport seemed to match their energy perfectly, elegant without trying too hard, and full of character.
One of my favorite things about photographing engagement sessions in Southport is how effortlessly versatile the location is. Within a short walk, couples can experience waterfront scenery, historic charm, and intimate hidden corners that make every gallery feel unique. For couples looking for a coastal New England aesthetic, it’s truly one of the most beautiful locations in Connecticut.
By the end of the evening, it felt less like a photoshoot and more like spending time with two people who were some of our oldest friends! Devon and Kevin brought such warmth, laughter, and authenticity to their session, and we already know their wedding day will be just as beautiful.
THE PROPOSAL STORY
On the evening of Devon’s 28th birthday, what started as a simple stop to visit her mom turned into one of the most unforgettable nights of their lives. Before heading to a birthday dinner together, Kevin and Devon stopped by the beach near her mom’s home. As the sun began to set over the water, the two wandered down to the shoreline, casually collecting sea glass together.
In the middle of that quiet, golden moment, Kevin got down on one knee and asked Devon to marry him! With the sky glowing behind them and waves rolling onto the shore, it was the kind of moment that felt completely magical. Even more special, both of their moms were there nearby, capturing photos of the proposal as it happened! After celebrating on the beach, the four of them headed to the same restaurant where Devon and Kevin had their very first date.
The evening already felt perfect, but the surprises weren’t over yet! Once dinner ended and they dropped their moms off at home, the couple made their way to another local restaurant, where all of their closest friends were waiting to surprise them with a birthday and engagement celebration. The night turned into hours of dancing, laughter, and nonstop celebrating, lasting all the way until 2 AM; the perfect ending to a day they’ll never forget!
These two are getting married this summer at Pine Orchard Yacht Club, and we are SO excited to celebrate them! Congratulations Devon and Kevin!
