A COASTAL SUMMER ENGAGEMENT SESSION
It’s always so sweet to watch a couple laugh their way through an engagement session, even when Mother Nature decides to change the script. Clare and Jeff’s coastal Connecticut summer engagement session at Walnut Beach in Milford, Connecticut was the perfect reminder that the best photos often come from simply embracing the moment together.
From the beginning, it was easy to see how completely at ease these two are with one another. Jeff and Clare’s connection is effortless; the kind that shows up in the little glances, the inside jokes, and the way they naturally gravitate toward each other without any posing prompts. As a wedding photographer, those are always the moments I’m most excited to capture.
We began their engagement session just as the evening light turned soft and golden. A gentle breeze rolled off the water, giving us that dreamy coastal feel that Walnut Beach is known for. The wind gently caught Clare’s hair as she and Jeff walked hand-in-hand along the shoreline, laughing as if they were the only two people there. The relaxed energy between them made photographing their session feel effortless. Rather than focusing on stiff poses, we spent most of the evening moving, exploring, and letting their personalities shine through.
About halfway through the session, the sky began to shift. Unexpected overcast clouds rolled in, and a hazy layer from the Canadian wildfires settled over the beach. The golden light faded, replaced by a softer, moodier atmosphere. With the changing conditions came a noticeable increase in humidity, but if Clare and Jeff were bothered by it, you’d never know. They stayed playful, lighthearted, and completely present with each other!
Some of my favorite images from the evening were captured during this transition. The haze created a muted backdrop, while the overcast sky softened the light even further. Instead of fighting the weather, they embraced it, and the result was a gallery filled with genuine emotion and beautiful coastal textures.
Jeff and Clare’s engagement session was the perfect blend of relaxed, romantic, and playful. From the golden-hour glow to the unexpected hazy skies, every part of the evening reflected their easygoing spirit and genuine connection.
THE PROPOSAL STORY
Every couple has a story, and Clare and Jeff's begins on a snowy mountain. In January 2022, Jeff asked Clare on their very first date: a snowboarding adventure. It wasn't exactly the easiest introduction to the sport, considering Clare had never stepped onto a snowboard before. Nonetheless, Jeff happily took on the role of instructor.
Several years later, in January of this year, the pair found themselves back on those same slopes. On a freezing winter evening, in the exact spot where they shared their first date, Jeff got down on one knee and asked Clare to marry him. The temperatures were well below freezing, but the moment itself couldn't have felt warmer. Returning to the place where their story began made the proposal incredibly meaningful; a full-circle moment that celebrated not only how far they'd come, but all the adventures still waiting for them!
These two are getting married next July at Saybrook Point Resort & Marina, and I’m already counting down the days until their wedding! Congratulations Clare and Jefferson!
