There’s something extra special about photographing an engagement session just days before a couple says “I do.” The anticipation is high, the emotions are real, and the love feels almost electric. Sam and Miguel’s Costa Rica engagement session was exactly that: joyful, intimate, and filled with the kind of moments that remind me why Arturo and I adore destination photography so much.

Tucked along the Guanacaste coast in Costa Rica, Las Catalinas feels like a little slice of Europe dropped right onto the Pacific Ocean. With its cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and relaxed coastal vibe, it’s a photographer’s dream and an incredibly romantic backdrop for an engagement session!

From the moment we started exploring, it was clear that this Costa Rica engagement session was going to be something special. Every turn revealed a new portrait location: sun-drenched archways, textured walls painted in warm hues, balconies overlooking the sea, and winding pathways that felt both timeless and intimate. There were truly endless portrait opportunities around every corner, and Sam and Miguel fit so naturally into the scenery, as if the town itself was celebrating them!

As we wandered through Las Catalinas together, Miguel and Sam laughed together, held hands, and soaked in the moment. Engagement sessions like this are less about stiff posing and more about connection, and these two made that effortless! Their chemistry is undeniable. Whether they were strolling side by side down the cobblestone streets or pausing to admire the architecture, the love they share showed through in every single portrait.

We ended their engagement session at Danta Beach in Las Catalinas, and there couldn’t have been a more perfect finale. As the sun dipped lower in the sky, it painted the horizon with the most breathtaking hues of pinks, yellows, and oranges. The light was soft and golden, wrapping Sam and Miguel in that dreamy glow every photographer hopes for.

They had kicked off their shoes and waded into the water as waves gently crashed around them, completely in their own world. These are the moments Arturo and I love to capture: the in-between laughter, the quiet embraces, and the way they looked at each other as if no one else existed. The ocean, the sunset, and their connection all came together in a way that felt cinematic and absolutely perfect!

This destination engagement session in Costa Rica offered such a beautiful mix of scenery and emotion. From vibrant towns like Las Catalinas to serene beaches and lush landscapes, it’s a destination that naturally encourages couples to slow down and be present with one another. For Miguel and Sam, Costa Rica isn’t just a backdrop; it’s part of their story, woven into the days leading up to their wedding celebration.

Si sueñas con una sesión de compromiso romántica y bañada por el sol en Costa Rica, la tarde de Sam y Miguel en Las Catalinas es pura inspiración mágica. Hay algo especialmente especial en fotografiar una sesión de compromiso apenas unos días antes de que una pareja diga “sí, acepto”. La anticipación es alta, las emociones son reales y el amor se siente casi eléctrico. La sesión de compromiso de Sam y Miguel en Costa Rica fue exactamente eso: alegre, íntima y llena de esos momentos que nos recuerdan por qué Arturo y yo adoramos tanto la fotografía de destino.

Ubicado a lo largo de la costa de Guanacaste en Costa Rica, Las Catalinas se siente como un pequeño rincón de Europa junto al Océano Pacífico. Con sus calles empedradas, edificios coloridos y una vibra costera relajada, es un sueño para cualquier fotógrafo y un escenario increíblemente romántico para una sesión de compromiso.

Desde el momento en que comenzamos a explorar, quedó claro que esta sesión de compromiso en Costa Rica iba a ser algo muy especial. Cada giro revelaba una nueva locación para retratos: arcos bañados por el sol, paredes texturizadas en tonos cálidos, balcones con vista al mar y senderos serpenteantes que se sentían a la vez atemporales e íntimos. Realmente había oportunidades infinitas para retratos en cada esquina, y Sam y Miguel encajaban de forma tan natural en el entorno, como si el propio pueblo estuviera celebrándolos.

Mientras caminábamos juntos por Las Catalinas, Miguel y Sam reían, se tomaban de la mano y disfrutaban plenamente el momento. Sesiones de compromiso como esta se tratan menos de poses rígidas y más de conexión, ¡y ellos hicieron que eso se viera completamente natural! Su química es innegable. Ya fuera paseando uno al lado del otro por las calles empedradas o deteniéndose a admirar la arquitectura, el amor que comparten se reflejaba en cada retrato.

Terminamos su sesión de compromiso en Playa Danta, en Las Catalinas, y no pudo haber un final más perfecto. A medida que el sol descendía en el cielo, pintaba el horizonte con los tonos más impresionantes de rosas, amarillos y naranjas. La luz era suave y dorada, envolviendo a Sam y Miguel en ese brillo soñador que todo fotógrafo anhela capturar.

Se quitaron los zapatos y se adentraron en el agua mientras las olas rompían suavemente a su alrededor, completamente inmersos en su propio mundo. Estos son los momentos que Arturo y yo amamos capturar: las risas espontáneas, los abrazos silenciosos y la manera en que se miraban como si nadie más existiera. El océano, el atardecer y su conexión se unieron de una forma cinematográfica y absolutamente perfecta.

Esta sesión de compromiso de destino en Costa Rica ofreció una combinación preciosa de paisajes y emoción. Desde pueblos vibrantes como Las Catalinas hasta playas serenas y paisajes exuberantes, es un destino que invita naturalmente a las parejas a bajar el ritmo y estar presentes el uno con el otro. Para Miguel y Sam, Costa Rica no es solo un escenario; es parte de su historia, entrelazada en los días previos a la celebración de su boda.

THE PROPOSAL STORY

One evening last May, Sam and Miguel found themselves standing barefoot in the gentle waves of Ocotal Beach in Guanacaste, wrapped in the glow of a golden Costa Rican sunset. Just as the sky began to deepen in color, Miguel took Sam’s hand and dropped down to one knee. With the waves swirling around them, he told her she’s his best friend, that he truly won the lottery with her, and that he couldn’t imagine a life without her by his side. It was intimate, heartfelt, and perfectly them: a quiet, romantic moment shared between two souls. Without hesitation, Sam said yes, and they celebrated by sharing the news of their engagement with family and friends!

Una tarde del mes de mayo, Sam y Miguel se encontraron de pie, descalzos, en las suaves olas de Playa Ocotal, en Guanacaste, envueltos por el resplandor de un atardecer dorado costarricense. Justo cuando el cielo comenzaba a intensificar sus colores, Miguel tomó la mano de Sam y se arrodilló. Con las olas girando a su alrededor, le dijo que es su mejor amiga, que realmente se sacó la lotería con ella y que no podía imaginar una vida sin Sam a su lado. Fue un momento íntimo, lleno de sentimiento y perfectamente ellos: un instante tranquilo y romántico compartido entre dos almas. Sin dudarlo, Sam dijo que sí, y celebraron compartiendo la noticia de su compromiso con familiares y amigos.
