It slows everything down, encourages everyone to be present, and reminds you that the best weddings aren't perfect because of the weather; they're perfect because of the people. Cara and John proved exactly that during their Wainwright House wedding in Rye, New York.
From the moment Arturo and I first met John and Cara at their engagement session this spring, it was clear these two shared something incredibly special. They're the kind of couple who genuinely enjoy simply being together. Best friends first and soulmates always, they approached every part of their wedding day with laughter, patience, and complete trust in one another. Even as scattered rain showers and summer thunderstorms rolled through, not once did they let the forecast steal their joy. Instead, they embraced it!
Nestled along the Long Island Sound, Wainwright House provided the perfect backdrop for their relaxed garden party celebration. The historic estate, lush grounds, and waterfront views created an effortlessly elegant atmosphere, even beneath cloudy skies. There was a calm energy throughout the day that felt so true to Cara and John; laid-back, joyful, and completely focused on what mattered most.
Throughout the day, the bride and groom never stopped smiling at one another. Whether they were exchanging quiet glances, laughing with their friends and family, or stealing little moments together between events, their connection was effortless. Photographing them felt less like directing and more like documenting two people simply enjoying every second of their wedding day.
During cocktail hour, the rain finally cleared just enough, giving us the opportunity to slip outside for newlywed portraits on the back lawn. The warm summer air, soft post-rain light, and vibrant greenery created an absolutely dreamy setting. The grounds of Wainwright House looked even more beautiful after the storm, as Cara and John soaked in every moment together, laughing, walking hand in hand, and savoring their first quiet moments as husband and wife!
Sometimes the most memorable wedding photographs happen because of unexpected circumstances, not despite them. The rain added depth, romance, and a story that was uniquely theirs; one that perfectly reflected their easygoing personalities and unwavering focus on each other.

THE LOVE STORY
John and Cara's story began in perhaps the most fitting way for two computer science majors at Cornell: on a shared Google Doc. Like many engineering students, they worked alongside friends to compile answers for their problem sets. One day, while reviewing the document, Cara came across an explanation that left her completely puzzled. She turned to a friend and asked, "What does this answer mean? It doesn't make sense."
Her friend suggested that she ask the person who wrote it. After checking the document's version history, Cara looked around the room and asked, "Who is John?" As fate would have it, John was sitting right in front of her. He replied, "I'm John."
What started as a simple question about a homework assignment became the beginning of something much bigger. Nine years later, the two best friends who first met over a Google Doc stood hand in hand, promising forever at their beautiful Wainwright House wedding, a reminder that sometimes the best love stories begin in the most unexpected places!
