A CLASSIC BLACK TIE WEDDING AT WHITBY CASTLE

Michelle and John planned a classic black tie summer wedding at Whitby Castle in Rye, New York. Whitby is one of our favorite venues in the area for a variety of reasons, but Arturo and I especially love the ballroom that is flooded with natural light during the day!

The new Mr. & Mrs. had originally planned their wedding for the spring of last year, but like many of our other 2020 couples, had to postpone… twice! The weekend of their wedding finally arrived, as well as a forecast of a hurricane that was going to hit New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. After two reschedules, the threat of a hurricane was not going to stop Michelle and John from getting married!

Luckily Hurricane Henri turned into Tropical Storm Henri, which led to heavy rain and some pretty strong winds on the evening on John and Michelle’s wedding day. However, it wasn’t anything Arturo and I hadn’t dealt with before, so we challenged our creative skills a little more that day!

THE LOVE STORY

Years ago, John and Michelle met while they both worked for the same company in Richmond, Virginia. They became good friends, but eventually realized they both had feelings for each other. In August of 2014, they secretly started dating! Eventually, Michelle and John left the firm they met at and moved to New York City to start working at new careers with different companies. The rest is history, and their romance brought us all to the wonderfully celebratory evening that was their wedding day!

Congratulations Michelle and John! Wishing you many exciting adventures in the years ahead!

Michelle was the epitome of a classic bride!

Whitby Castle has plenty of large windows which floods the venue with natural light. There are endless spots for portraits here, which we were extra thankful for due to the heavy rain that day!

They’re (finally) married!

The wind and rain started to pick up again after just a few minutes after we went outside for newlywed portraits. Luckily, the ballroom at Whitby Castle has plenty of windows and natural light, which served as an equally beautiful backdrop for photos!
