I'm very happy to introduce you all to Barbara of AvantGarde Design today!  I met Barbara a couples months back when we collaborated on a styled shoot together at The Confetti Bar, and couldn't have enjoyed working with her more.  Not only does she have a wonderful sense of style and design, but she is absolutely hysterical!!  Her designs are timeless, elegant and beautiful, and always seem to take my breath away.  To anyone looking for a designer for their wedding stationery suite, Barbara is your girl and will not disappoint!

1. What do you enjoy most about being a print and stationary designer?
"One of the many things I love about being a designer is having many opportunities to push my boundaries and express my feelings through my designs.  I enjoy meeting new people, building relationships, listening to dreams and helping any and all of my clients bring a vision to life with the work I do.  When you work with a client on a rebrand, it holds a special place in your heart; you want them to succeed, so you're doing everything you can to make it happen.  When it comes to our brides, we understand that their wedding is one of the most important days of their life.  Therefore the designs we create need to be unique and provide an incredible first impression to guests of the occasion to come."

2. What led you to becoming a designer?
"I've always had a passion for beautiful paper, typography, colors and how they dance together on a page.  I started learning the basics of InDesign and Illustrator in 2009 for my full time job, and slowly fell in love with designing beautiful pieces that made people 'ooohhh' and 'aaahhh'.  After word got around that I was designing pretty things (ha!), my cousin asked if I could help with her wedding day paper.  I jumped at the chance and from that point on, I started offering my services to people I knew who were getting married.  After a few years of offering up my services, I was fortunate enough to have my clients refer their friends and family.  If it wasn't for them and their continued business, I wouldn't be where I am.  The continued support and love from family, friends and amazing clients is what keeps us going.  One day I'd love to inspire others to challenge themselves and step out of their comfort zone."

3. What attracted you to the wedding industry?
"The wedding industry is filled with so many wonderful and talented people.  I was a bit nervous at first, but I would do my best to introduce myself to fellow vendors and work on projects with professionals to gain experience and knowledge.  I owe it all to my wedding pro friendors (a.k.a. vendors turned friends) for the countless memories and opportunities that I've had!"

4. What is your favorite part of working with brides?
"Ahh, where do I start!  Honestly, it's the whole process, from the initial meeting, to seeing them a few days prior to the wedding and handing off the wedding day paper goodies.  Weddings can be a stressful time, so I do my best to make it as fun and easy as possible for my brides.  I love hearing all about their special day and how I can help."

5. What (or who) has inspired your creativity?
"I'm inspired by my husband and my family.  They are so giving and caring, and it makes me feel so loved and blessed to be able to do what I do and follow my passion.  The dreamers, believers and doers.  Strong people who go after their dreams, no matter what people say to them.  Positive people who lift other people up, empower others to continue pushing forward and not sacrificing their values or morals for others just to fit in.  Finding inspiration in the littlest of things can lead to some of the most amazing designs."

6. As a stationary designer, what is one tip you would give to brides for their wedding day?
"I may sound like a broken record by now, but try not to stress about the little things, enjoy the process and meeting the wedding professionals you choose to work with.  It really is true when they say 'It's the best day of your life - and it goes by so fast - so enjoy every single second and take it all in.'  Don't sweat the small stuff and trust your wedding pros.  We are here to help you and make it easier for you.  Remember, your wedding day is special and meaningful, but the journey you are embarking on with your loved one is much more wonderful."
