The Best Marriage Advice I Ever Received

Arturo and I were married just over four years ago, and while that by no means makes us veterans when it comes to marriage, I always, always, always love sharing one piece of wedding advice I received on my wedding day whenever I can! Between my bridal shower, our guest book, and our wedding cards, we received countless pieces of marriage advice, all of which I’ve always been (and will continue to be) thankful for. Even with all that we were told, there’s one phrase that still sticks crystal clear in my mind.

As our wedding reception was dying down and the DJ had played the last song of the evening, our guests were slowly heading out the door, saying their goodbyes and giving us well wishes for a lifetime of happiness ahead. One of the last people I spoke with that evening was one of my many aunts, my mom’s youngest sister, Joanne. She gave me a hug, congratulated me and began walking towards the exit with my uncle. My Aunt Jo quickly turned back, ran over to me and whispered in my ear, “A lot of people say marriage is the hardest thing you’ll do in life. But if you find the right person, it will be the easiest part of your life.” I immediately connected with her statement because I felt just that with Arturo, and continue to feel that to this day! There are so many other parts of life that I find challenging, but living life with Arturo and sharing our days together are 100% the easiest and hands down THE BEST part of my life.

So my point is, find someone who makes your life together easy and joyful, someone who brings laughter and light to challenging situations. Find someone who makes you a better person, and be sure to do the same for them. I promise you, you’ll know when you’ve found them.
